The city's seafront esplanade — lined with cafes and restaurants — faces the Greek island of Corfu, just 20 km away by ferry. Renting a car here turns a beach trip into a full Riviera circuit: drive north through Himarë and Dhërmi to Vlora, or head south to the islands and lagoon of Ksamil (17 km, about 20 minutes) in the morning before the crowds arrive.

Driving in and around Saranda is easy — the roads are paved and clear. The only exception is the off-road track down to Gjipe Canyon (north of Himarë), which requires a higher-clearance vehicle. Saranda's town roads are well paved and easy to navigate. Parking along the esplanade fills up in July–August — use the lots on the upper terraces and walk down. The main coastal road (SH8) north towards Himarë is fully paved; the descent into each bay village involves tight bends but is manageable in any standard car. For some of the more remote coves north of Himarë, a car with moderate ground clearance is helpful.
